Providence Rally for Unemployment Ins.-COBRA Extension City Hall

A passionate group of activists braved the heat wave and staged a demonstration on the steps of City Hall to demand that our representatives get busy- break the stalemate on extending Unemployment insurance and COBRA benefits pointing out that congress spent money with reckless abandon bailing out the banks. Wiley Center Sponsors of the Event: Ocean State Action RI Unemployed Council George Wiley Center AFSCME Council 94 Jobs with Justice UFCW United Service and Allied Workers Progressive Democrats of America Rep Scott Slater of Providence This grassroots group organized by the RI Unemployed Council and Ocean State Action put a human face on the suffering. The event was also supported by the Progressive Democrats of America, SEIU and many unions. Representative Scott Slater and candidate for congress Betsy Dennigan were in attendance.
